Explore Agafay Desert with Camel ride & Learn about Berber People and Culture

In Agafay desert day trip you will have a chance to explore amazing landscapes of the stone desert which is located just at 35 minutes southwest of Marrakech between East Lake Lalla Takerkoust, South of the High Atlas mountains. During your Agafay desert day trip from Marrakech you will explore an unspool nature of a desert and scraps area. The Agafay Desert’s landscape is covered with wheat, barley and flowers however in the spring and autumn months it looks similar to the real desert with flowing dunes and the bonus of majestic snow-capped high atlas mountains views in the background. in spring Agafay offers up wild flowers among other flora and fauna which make it a scenic and a wonderful desert experience.
Please note that The Agafay desert is quite bland compared to the more popular sahara desert experience at Erg Chebbi sahara dunes or Erg Chigaga desert but you need a minimum of 3 days and 2 nights for that trip.

Marrakech Desert Agafay

Your driver will pick you up at 09am from your hotel/riad, Marrakech to Agafay Desert day trip will give you the chance to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside, Takerkoust Lake and Agafay Desert. The route is shaded by lush vegetation, olive and orange orchards and passes through the occasional village of Agafay from where we will go off road and driving through a completely different scenery of stone desert, barren light brown plateau, Bedouin village, Oasis then high hills with panoramic views on the High Atlas. A few hours later small patches of green will start to show and not long after you will be back on the tarmac road side-lined by the old eucalyptus trees. You will arrive to the edge of the Lalla Takerkoust lake built as a dam where Marrakech gets its electricity from. Through small hills along the dam you will get to Nfis valley cross over the mountain forest of Tizi Ouzla , and arriving in Ouirgane valley, where you can have lunch at Berber family home , and you can watch a Berber women how can she make a Berber fresh bread , having lunch with a family , after lunch you can have a short hike to the traditional salt mines and visit the village, before you heading back to Marrakech via  Asni, a small town (Berber market every Saturdays and Tuesday in Tahnnaout which is the next town after Asni) with a view on Toubkal the highest peak in North Africa. Then you will pass Moulay Brahim gorges, Ghighaya valley and Tahanouete before getting to Marrakech.
