Mgoun Treks & Rose Valley
ποΈ Mgoun & Rose Valley Treks
The Mgoun Massif (4,071m) lies in the central High Atlas and is the second-highest peak in Morocco, after Mount Toubkal. Unlike the Toubkal region, Mgoun is much less visited, which makes it ideal for those seeking authentic, off-the-beaten-path trekking experiences.
The area is famous for:
-
Wide open plateaus, deep valleys, and dramatic gorges.
-
Ait Bouguemez Valley (βHappy Valleyβ) β lush farmland and traditional Berber villages.
-
Nomadic camps where you meet local shepherds with their flocks.
-
Long ridge walks with spectacular panoramic views.
The Rose Valley (VallΓ©e des Roses) is located south of the Mgoun Massif, near the town of Kelaat MβGouna. It is famous for its:
-
Rose plantations that bloom in May (Roses Festival is held here every spring).
-
Dades and Mgoun rivers, carving out dramatic gorges and fertile valleys.
-
Kasbahs and ancient Berber villages built in red clay, blending with the landscape.
-
Rich culture of the Berber people who still live traditionally.
