🕌 Day 1 – Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou (≈180 km / 4 hrs)
Your journey begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. From the vibrant streets of the city, you will ascend into the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), Morocco’s highest mountain road. Along the way, the scenery unfolds with terraced valleys, snow-capped peaks in winter, and small Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides. ❄️🏔️
Your first stop is Kasbah Telouet, an ancient palace of the powerful Glaoui family. Wander through the crumbling walls and beautifully carved doors while imagining the lives of Morocco’s historic elites. Continue to the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, an iconic hilltop kasbah made of red clay, famously featured in films like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. 🏜️ Day 2 – Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley (≈160 km / 3.5 hrs)
After breakfast, depart from Ait Ben Haddou and continue eastwards, crossing the rugged Sarhro Mountains. The landscape changes dramatically from the lush High Atlas to jagged volcanic peaks and deep gorges. 🌋 You’ll notice the contrast of rocky terrain punctuated by abandoned kasbahs, silent witnesses to Morocco’s rich history.
As you approach the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley, the scenery softens into fertile green stretches dotted with palm groves, mud-brick villages, and traditional irrigation systems known as khettaras. 🌴🏘️ Stop along the way to explore Berber villages, meet local families, and experience a glimpse of everyday life in rural Morocco. 🗻 Day 3 – Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Nekob → Zagora (≈250 km / 5 hrs)
This morning begins with a visit to Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural formations. Towering sandstone cliffs rise nearly 300 meters above the valley floor, creating narrow canyon paths ideal for short walks and photography. 🏞️
Continue towards Nekob, a traditional Berber town with ancient kasbahs, local markets, and mud-brick architecture. Stroll through the town, interact with locals, and witness traditional crafts being made. 🏘️🛍️
The drive back through the Draa Valley offers additional scenic viewpoints of palm groves, kasbahs, and small villages tucked along the valley floor. 🐪 Day 4 – Zagora → M’Hamid → Erg Chigaga (≈160 km / 5 hrs)
Today’s journey takes you deeper into the edge of the Sahara Desert. Begin with a stop at Tamgrout (Tamegroute), a village renowned for its green pottery. 🏺✨ Witness Berber artisans creating distinctive green-glazed bowls, pots, and decorative items using traditional techniques. Don’t miss the 13th-century Koran library, an underground repository of ancient manuscripts, showcasing centuries of Moroccan Islamic scholarship. 📚
Continue to M’Hamid, the last town before the expansive desert. Explore the palm groves and mud-brick houses while enjoying lunch and a taste of local life. 🌴🏘️

Arrive at Erg Chigaga, where the vast golden dunes await.
