โท๏ธ 8 Days Skiing in Moroccoโs High Atlas ๐๏ธโ๏ธ
๐ Detailed Itinerary
๐ฟ Skiing in the Toubkal Mountains
The High Atlas Mountains are not only Moroccoโs highest range but also one of the most unique places in the world to enjoy ski touring. With Mount Toubkal standing at 4,167m, North Africaโs highest peak, the region offers an incredible playground for skiers seeking both adventure and culture.
From February to April, the snow conditions are at their best, transforming the rugged High Atlas valleys into a pristine ski terrain. Long, sweeping descents, dramatic alpine scenery, and challenging ascents make this a true skierโs paradise.
Unlike traditional ski resorts, skiing in the Toubkal Massif is about wild backcountry exploration. Youโll skin up through remote valleys, traverse over high passes, and ski down untouched slopes, far from the crowds. Nights are spent in mountain refuges, Berber gรฎtes, or family homes, where warm hospitality, Moroccan meals, and cultural exchange enrich the experience.
This unique combination of authentic Berber culture and world-class ski touring makes the Toubkal Massif one of the most rewarding winter adventures in Morocco โ perfect for experienced skiers looking for something off the beaten path.
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech โ Gateway to the High Atlas
Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport, youโll be met by our driver and transferred to your charming riad in the old medina. The rest of the day is free to stroll through the maze-like souks, admire the colorful spice stalls, and soak in the energy of Jemaa el-Fna square, where storytellers, snake charmers, and food vendors come alive at sunset. This first evening is all about relaxation and preparing yourself for the mountain adventure ahead.

Day 2: Marrakech โ Imlil โ Trek to Toubkal Refuge (3,207m)
After breakfast, we leave the bustle of Marrakech behind and drive into the High Atlas Mountains (1h30). At Imlil village (1,740m), we meet our local muleteers who will carry luggage, leaving us free to ascend with skis and light packs.
The skinning begins gently through Berber villages and terraced fields, before entering the wilder Mizane Valley. A stop at the Chamharouch shrine (2,310m)โa spiritual site visited by pilgrimsโoffers a cultural glimpse. From here, the path climbs steadily, snow becoming deeper as we approach the alpine world. By afternoon we reach the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m), nestled beneath steep cliffs. Here, hot tea and a warm dinner await.

Reaching the summit cross of Toubkal (4,167m) is a thrilling momentโpanoramic views stretch across the entire Atlas chain, with the Sahara Desert shimmering to the south. After a well-earned rest, comes the highlight: a long ski descent back to the refuge, weaving turns down wide open slopes.

The ridge here offers dramatic alpine scenery, with jagged peaks and plunging valleys. From the summits, the reward is an exhilarating ski descent back to the refuge, carving turns in the fresh snow.
