This incredible 7-day adventure is a cultural and trekking journey into the Berber heartland of Moroccoβs High Atlas Mountains.
From remote valleys and traditional villages to the breathtaking Lake Ifni and the mighty Toubkal summit, youβll cross high mountain passes, meet welcoming Berber families, and discover the raw beauty of Morocco.
Itβs a trek that blends authentic cultural immersion with the challenge of North Africaβs highest peak (4,167m).
ποΈ Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech β Imlil β Tizi nβTamatert β Tacheddirt
After breakfast in Marrakech, youβll be picked up by private transport and driven south into the foothills of the High Atlas (approx. 1h30).
Your trek begins in Imlil (1,740m), a bustling trailhead village. From here, you climb steadily up through terraced fields and juniper forests to the Tizi nβTamatert Pass (2,279m), offering magnificent views of the Imnan and Imlil valleys.
You descend gently into the valley before arriving at Tacheddirt (2,300m), the highest permanently inhabited Berber village in the Atlas.

Day 2: Tacheddirt β Tizi nβLikemt β Azib Tinzar
A demanding but rewarding day. You begin with a long ascent towards the Tizi nβLikemt Pass (3,555m), one of the highest passes in the Toubkal range.
The trail zigzags up a barren, rocky slope, but the views from the top are breathtaking β jagged summits, vast valleys, and on a clear day, even glimpses towards the Anti-Atlas.
From the pass, you descend into a beautiful high valley dotted with shepherdsβ huts and summer pastures, finally reaching Azib Tinzar (2,300m).

Day 3: Azib Tinzar β Tizi nβOuraΓ― β Amsouzart
Todayβs trail leads through wide alpine meadows before a steady climb to Tizi nβOuraΓ― (3,120m). This pass offers splendid panoramas across the valleys below and the snow-dusted peaks above.
The descent takes you through walnut groves, terraced fields, and traditional Berber villages until you reach Amsouzart (1,740m), a lively village with stone houses nestled against the mountainside.
Here, youβll experience warm Berber hospitality in a family guesthouse.

Day 4: Amsouzart β Lake Ifni
A shorter, more relaxed stage. You hike out of Amsouzart, passing through small villages and cultivated fields, before climbing towards the spectacular Lake Ifni (2,295m).
Surrounded by rocky peaks, this turquoise glacial lake is one of the most beautiful natural sights in the Atlas.
The afternoon is free to relax by the lakeshore, swim (in summer), or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Day 5: Lake Ifni β Toubkal Refuge
A tough but unforgettable day. From Lake Ifni, you climb steeply to the Tizi nβOuanoums Pass (3,670m) β a dramatic col squeezed between towering rock walls.
The descent brings you into the heart of the Toubkal Massif, reaching the Refuge du Toubkal (3,207m) in the afternoon. This is your base for the summit attempt.

Day 6: Ascent of Mount Toubkal (4,167m)
The big day! An early pre-dawn start to climb North Africaβs highest peak.
The trail climbs steeply on rocky ground, gradually opening up to a wide ridge. After 3β4 hours, youβll stand at the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m). The view is breathtaking β across the Atlas range, the Anti-Atlas, and on a clear day, even the Sahara stretching endlessly to the south.
After photos and celebration, descend carefully back to the refuge. Afternoon at leisure to rest.

Day 7: Refuge β Imlil β Marrakech
Your final day begins with a long descent through the valley of Sidi Chamharouch, famous for its white rock shrine visited by pilgrims.
Continue down to Imlil, where your driver will be waiting for the transfer back to Marrakech. Arrival in the city by late afternoon.
