Day by day

  1. 01
Day 1Arrival in Marrakech – Transfer to Imlil (Riad Berber Towers)

    - Transfer time: ~1.5 hrs (65 km)

    - Start point: Marrakech (hotel/riad or airport)

    - End point: Imlil (1,740m, High Atlas)

    - Accommodation: Riad Berber Towers, Imlil

    - Meals included: Dinner

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Marrakech Airport or pick-up from your hotel/riad in Marrakech. After meeting your driver, you’ll set off south towards the High Atlas Mountains, leaving behind the bustling medina and entering the tranquil countryside.

The scenic drive (approx. 1.5 hours / 65 km) takes you through winding roads, olive groves, and traditional Berber villages, with the mountains rising dramatically in the distance. As you climb higher into the foothills of the Atlas, you’ll notice the air becoming fresher and cooler.

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Imlil (1,740m), the main trailhead for treks in Toubkal National Park. Nestled in a lush valley surrounded by walnut and cherry trees, Imlil is often called the “Chamonix of Morocco.”

Here, you’ll settle into your accommodation at the authentic Riad Berber Towers, where you’ll be greeted with traditional Moroccan hospitality. Enjoy a refreshing welcome tea on the terrace with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and villages.

In the evening, savor a homemade Berber dinner, prepared with local ingredients, before resting overnight in the peaceful setting of your riad. This night in Imlil allows you to acclimatize gently to the altitude and mountain environment, preparing you for the hikes ahead.

  2. 02
Day 2Hike to Tizi n’Mzik Pass – Return to Riad Berber Towers

    - Hiking distance: ~10–12 km (round trip)

    - Duration: 5–6 hrs

    - Elevation gain/loss: +750m / –750m

    - Highest point: Tizi n’Mzik Pass (2,489m)

    - Meals included: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner

    - Accommodation: Riad Berber Towers, Imlil

After a hearty breakfast on the terrace of Riad Berber Towers, your mountain guide will meet you to start today’s adventure. The hike begins right from the doorstep of the riad, taking you through the charming alleyways of Imlil and out into the walnut groves and terraced fields where local Berber families farm apples, cherries, and barley.

The trail soon climbs steadily on a mule path, zig-zagging above the valley with ever-widening views. As you ascend, the scenery changes from cultivated terraces to alpine slopes dotted with juniper and wild herbs. With each step, the air grows fresher and the panoramas more dramatic.

By late morning, you’ll reach the Tizi n’Mzik Pass (2,489m), a high mountain saddle with sweeping views down into the colorful Azzaden Valley on one side and back toward the Imlil Valley on the other. On clear days, you may even spot some of the higher snow-capped summits of the Atlas Range in the distance.

Here, your cook and muleteer will prepare a freshly made picnic lunch in nature, often featuring local bread, salads, tagine, and mint tea. This is the perfect place to rest, take photos, and breathe in the silence of the mountains.

In the afternoon, you’ll descend along the same path, taking time to enjoy the changing light on the mountains and perhaps stopping to greet shepherds or villagers along the way. By mid to late afternoon, you’ll return to Riad Berber Towers, where mint tea will be waiting for you on the panoramic terrace.

The rest of the day is for relaxation — watch the sunset over the surrounding peaks, explore Imlil village, or simply unwind before dinner. In the evening, enjoy a delicious Berber-style dinner prepared with seasonal ingredients before settling in for another cozy night in the riad.

  3. 03
Day 3Hike to Sidi Chamharouch – Picnic Lunch by the River & Waterfalls

    - Hiking distance: ~8–10 km (round trip)

    - Duration: 4–5 hrs

    - Elevation gain/loss: +450m / –450m

    - Highest point: Sidi Chamharouch (2,310m)

    - Meals included: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner

    - Accommodation: Riad Berber Towers, Imlil

After breakfast at Riad Berber Towers, you’ll set out with your guide on a beautiful day hike that blends nature, spirituality, and local culture. The trail begins gently, following the path through the Mizane Valley, crossing small Berber hamlets with stone-built houses and terraced fields of barley and corn.

As you ascend gradually, the landscape becomes more rugged, with juniper bushes, grazing goats, and the sound of rushing streams accompanying your journey. After about 2 hours, you will reach the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch (2,310m), known as the “King of the Jinn”. This white-painted shrine is an important pilgrimage site for Moroccans, where locals come seeking blessings and healing. The area also marks the spiritual gateway to Mount Toubkal.

Nearby, your cook and muleteer will prepare a freshly made picnic lunch beside the river and waterfalls, a peaceful setting perfect for resting, refreshing your feet in the cold water, and soaking in the mountain atmosphere.

After lunch, you’ll retrace your steps down the valley, enjoying the afternoon light on the surrounding peaks and villages. Returning to Riad Berber Towers, relax with mint tea on the terrace before a hearty Berber dinner.

  4. 04
Day 4Hike in Ouirgane Valley – Salt Mines & Jewish Heritage – Lunch with a Berber Family – Return to Marrakech

    - Transfer time: Imlil → Ouirgane ~1 hr | Ouirgane → Marrakech ~1.5 hrs

    - Hiking distance: ~6–8 km

    - Duration: 2–3 hrs (easy/moderate hike)

    - Elevation: 1,000–1,200m (gentle valley walk)

    - Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

    - Accommodation: Not included (end of trip)

After breakfast at Riad Berber Towers, you’ll meet your driver and guide and head to the Ouirgane Valley, known as the “Garden of the Atlas” for its fertile fields, red-earth hills, olive groves, and walnut trees.

Your day’s hike takes you through peaceful landscapes, pine forests, and Berber villages. Along the way, you will explore three unique cultural highlights:

    - Traditional Salt Mines – still worked by local families, where mineral-rich water evaporates in shallow pans to form gleaming crystals. Salt from Ouirgane was once a prized trading good and even used as currency.

    - Jewish Heritage – Ouirgane was once home to a vibrant Jewish community. You may visit the remains of the old Jewish synagogue and cemetery, silent witnesses to centuries of coexistence and trade in the valley. This gives the hike a deeper historical dimension, connecting Berber and Jewish traditions of the Atlas.

    - Berber Family Lunch – you’ll be warmly welcomed into a local home to enjoy a freshly prepared lunch of tagine, olives, homemade bread, and mint tea.

After lunch, your driver will take you back across the Atlas foothills, arriving in Marrakech by late afternoon.
