    • Distance ~280 km
    • Driving ~6 hours

After breakfast, depart from the Dades Valley and follow the scenic road toward Kelaat M’Gouna, also known as the Valley of Roses . This charming area is famous for its spring rose festival and for producing delicate rosewater and essential oils. You may stop at a local cooperative to see how these traditional products are made by Berber women using time-honored techniques.

Continue your drive through the Skoura Oasis , a lush valley of palm groves and ancient kasbahs (fortified homes), including the well-preserved Kasbah Amridil, one of the most beautiful and iconic kasbahs in southern Morocco. The landscapes gradually change from fertile valley floors to the arid, cinematic plains surrounding Ouarzazate , often called the “Hollywood of Africa.”

Here, you can visit the world-famous Atlas Film Studios, where international movies and series like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones were filmed. A guided visit reveals the impressive sets, props, and stories behind Morocco’s thriving film industry.

Just a short drive further west brings you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Ben Haddou , a striking example of southern Moroccan earthen clay architecture. This ancient ksar (fortified village), perched on a hill along the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech, has been featured in numerous films and remains one of Morocco’s most photogenic sites. Stroll through its narrow alleys and climb to the top for breathtaking panoramic views over the desert plain and the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.

  9. 09
Day 9Imlil: Berber Villages Hike & Traditional Lunch
    • Walking distance 3–8 km
    • Duration 2–3 hours

Wake up to the fresh mountain air and the sound of birds echoing across the valley. After breakfast at your riad, set off on a gentle hike through the scenic Imlil Valley (1,740 m) — the gateway to Mount Toubkal. Your local mountain guide will lead you along ancient mule trails that connect the Berber villages scattered across the slopes of the High Atlas.

The walk passes through terraced fields, apple and walnut groves, and crystal-clear mountain streams, where villagers still draw water using traditional irrigation channels. Along the way, you’ll visit picturesque hamlets such as Aremd or Tamatert, where stone-built houses blend naturally into the surrounding mountainsides.

Enjoy frequent stops for photos and for meeting friendly locals going about their daily lives — women baking bread in clay ovens, children playing by the water channels, and farmers tending to their mules or small orchards.

Around midday, you’ll be warmly welcomed into a Berber family home for a freshly prepared traditional lunch — often featuring tajine, homemade bread, olive oil, and mint tea. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience authentic mountain hospitality and learn about Berber customs, traditions, and daily routines in this remote yet welcoming region.

After lunch, enjoy a leisurely walk back down to your riad or guesthouse, where the rest of the afternoon is free to relax — perhaps on the terrace overlooking the snow-capped peaks or with a cup of Moroccan tea as the sun sets over the valley.

    Evening Experience:

Enjoy a cozy dinner prepared with local ingredients and spend a peaceful night under the stars of the High Atlas.

After breakfast, say goodbye to the peaceful mountains and the friendly faces of Imlil as you begin your journey back to the vibrant city of Marrakech. The drive winds gently down through the Aït Mizane Valley, offering spectacular views of terraced fields, walnut trees, and snow-capped peaks in the distance.

Pass through Asni, a lively market town where locals from nearby villages gather to trade fresh produce, livestock, and handmade goods. If it’s a Saturday, you may even catch the weekly souk — a colorful scene filled with the aromas of spices, fresh mint, and grilled corn.

Continue descending into the Haouz Plain, where the landscape gradually shifts from rugged mountain terrain to open farmland dotted with olive groves and adobe villages. As the red walls of Marrakech come into view, you’ll feel the contrast between the calm of the High Atlas and the bustling rhythm of the “Red City.”

Upon arrival in Marrakech, check into your riad or hotel, ideally located within or near the Medina — the city’s historic heart. The rest of the day is yours to relax or begin exploring the city’s rich heritage:

    - Enjoy a rooftop dinner overlooking Jemaa el-Fna Square, where storytellers, musicians, and food stalls bring the night to life.
