After a spectacular drive over the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass (2260m), we pass through the Ouarzazate region and its pre-Saharan landscape. We then drive through the palmeries of the beautiful Draa Valley until we reach our overnight in camp at Mhamed. We meet out camels and team this evening before dinner and take some time to enjoy the silence, a stark contrast from Marrakech. About 8hrs driving if you traveling from Marrakech but he will be good if you travel just from Ouarzazate or Skoura!

  • > Day 2 Mhamid - Oued Naam

After about 3 hrs walking, we sit for a lunch break under a shadowy tree. After lunch, we taste a nomad cup of tea to refresh our bodies and get energy for more trekking. After another 2/3 hrs trek, we set a camp in a dry river ( Oued Naam ) to spend an overnight in the tents or under the starlit sky.

After lunch meal, we continue to enjoy the superb and unusual sights. After another about 3 hrs walking, we set our camp in wonderful dunes area named Bougaren . Dinner and night served under the starlit sky or in the tent.

  • After the sunrise and the morning breakfast, we carry on our trekking towards the dunes of Erg Chigaga. Before we reach this large group of dunes, lunch and a cup of tea are offered to relax and get more energy in a nice Oasis that consists of a small group of palm trees and a source of water which is running the whole year for the nomads to soak their herds and get a little water for survival. After further 15 km, we reach Chigaga dunes. You enjoy the sunset on the high dunes to taste a different world of calmness and tranquility. We spend the night in the Berber tent in a camp. Dinner will be served with local entertainment. About 4/5walk, this afternoon it’s possible to continue by 4x4 to Skoura or Ouarzazate.

  • > Day 5: Skoura or Ouarzazate – Telouet – Marrakech
  • This morning it’s your last day after the desert experience, we’ll takes us to Kasbah of Glaoui at Telouet, at side of an older Kasbah, the first one having almost completely disappeared.
It consists of a juxtaposition of buildings - various parts having been added, the Glaoua's fortune and power increasing. The Kasbah offers an impressive unit, all at the same time fortress, castle and caravanserai.
Today firstly we will vist Ait ben Hadou Kasbahs; The Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou is a communal housing compound, typical of a type of construction that is traditional to the Maghreb. The buildings lie in a strategic position against a mountain. They have angle towers and are surrounded by steep defensive walls. It is in 1860 when was begun the construction of the Kasbah of Glaoua at Télouet, at side of an older Kasbah, the first one having almost completely disappeared.
It was increased considerably during half a century in the course of which Glaoua held a prestigious power in the South. Since 1960, The Kasbah is mainly abandoned.
The Ksar consists of larger and smaller private houses, but also communal areas like a market place and a mosque. All are made from molded earth and clay brick. The walls and towers are often ornamented with decorative motifs. The age of the site is unknown. The town has been protected by the Moroccan authorities since 1953.
In this composite architecture, the urban elements dispute it with the Berber tradition, but the whole is marked seal of an imposing size. Kasbah, it remains only the part built at the beginning of the XXth century, richly decorated, which testifies to splendor in which the "Last Lord of the Atlas" lived. It is said that 300 workmen worked during three years to carve the ceilings and the walls,
We penetrate in the Kasbah by a large reinforced door with a key of some 25 centimeter length to emerge in a stone paved courtyard. Formerly Berber dances took place under the glance of Glaoua installed in a balcony, in a first floor of the building. The balcony reserved for the favorites is still almost intact. It is the part of city style that we visit, the one which sheltered the sumptuous family
The reception room gives on the countryside by beautiful latticed windows. A luxurious decoration of stuccos and zelliges hides completely walls and ground.²Splendid cedar selling hand-stenciled paint-work. Elegantly slender doors still bears their silver bolts. Splendid sight from the terrace on the surprisingly green countryside which borders the village and the Atlas mountains in the background, after this visit we head back to Marrakech trough the Tichka Pass, 6hrs of journey.
